1. Management and Club structure;
Instead of annual elections in the traditional sense, where one candidate is chosen or nominated for each position, we propose to continue the organization within the Club through co-option. This means that Club members, as needed, will themselves choose or nominate new members for the various roles, committees, or positions. This approach prevents a radical break with the past and aligns with our practice of constantly seeking suitable new active Club members. It's not always necessary to have multiple candidates for each position or activity for a fixed term; we are, of course, happy to have one or more candidates for each role, position, or activity who take responsibility for it. Candidates are already available for practical matters such as coordination, PR and communication, and financial affairs; however, please let us know if you are interested.
2. The Club as a Portal for Activities So we are preparing We anticipate a shift in how our members experience the Club. We're noticing that people are less and less interested in formal membership in a social group, but still enjoy participating in events and fun activities. This means the Hua Hin Club increasingly functions as a portal, a conduit, for activities that often have a Dutch flavor. These events can be characterized by, for example:
● The Dutch language as the working language, but other languages are also welcome;
● A contribution from Dutch artists or events (King's Day or Liberation Day);
● Special Dutch interest in a subject (for example Dutch football);
● Or events that take place at a typical Dutch location in Hua Hin (for example a Dutch restaurant or a place run by Dutch people at another location or for which there is an affinity;
We believe this focus will broaden the Club's appeal, while maintaining our connection to our Dutch roots.
It should also be noted that for the time being, the monthly meetings at Chef-Sca and Pine-Apple Valley on Thursdays will continue. However, this too may change in the future.
3. Change in Sponsorship We don't expect to attract any new sponsors in the near future. Contributions to overhead costs remain welcome, of course. This means we need to reduce our reliance on sponsorship and focus on self-funding our activities based on actual costs. This also means we will no longer charge membership fees. Donations to special charities remain welcome.
4. Financial Independence of Activities A key change is that we expect each activity to be self-funded. This can be achieved through special sponsors who may be interested in a specific activity and/or through contributions from the participants themselves. Therefore, we must organize activities in such a way that the costs are covered by contributions from participating club members, ensuring the Dutch Hua Hin Club remains financially sound. For example, fishing on a boat costs 12,000 baht, but with 10 participants, it would cost 1200 per person, with no further club fees.
5. Committees/Activity Groups as the Driving Force of the Club An important aspect within the future of the Dutch Hua Hin Club is the role of committees or working groups.
These groups are crucial to the club's success, as they drive its activities. We increasingly view the Dutch Hua Hin Club as a platform where members can organize their own ideas and initiatives. Anyone who wants to contribute to an activity can do so within the Dutch Hua Hin Club. Whether it's a cultural activity, a sporting event, or something else, we encourage members to share their ideas and participate in the organization. These groups can then independently organize activities or one-time outings, etc., for which interested parties can register with the coordinator.
In this way we create a club that really for and by the members exists. Members can develop their own initiatives, and the club serves as a portal for those initiatives and activities. This makes it easier to organize more events, as long as the activity is financially self-sufficient. It also relieves the burden of the "board" as we knew it. We want to be a flexible and dynamic club where everyone can contribute to the organization. Fortunately, there are already some interested parties.
Conclusion With these revised house rules, we aim to strengthen the Hua Hin Club's position for the future, enabling us to flexibly respond to the changing needs of our members and the wider community. We remain true to our roots, but are looking to the future with a fresh perspective. We hope these adjustments will not only improve the operation of our Club but also increase the engagement and sense of community among our members.
