Chairman's talk May 22, 2023

Not much has happened in the past 2 weeks. The Mother's Day breakfast on May 14 at Say Cheese was especially enjoyable. 16 members were present.

On Sunday, May 21, a delegation went to Kachanaburi for the (re)opening of the Bamboo School. At the initiative of the previous board, the NVTHC supports the Bambooschool project there.

Our Dr. Mo from Be Well started his career at this school, set up by the Karen people.

Thursday May 18 was the monthly board meeting at which our new board member Mali ten Houten was also present. And also our webmaster, Gert Visser with tips and tricks for further professionalization of our website. The main language for our site remains Dutch, but there will be a translation button to English or Thai. Then our members can read all the news in their own language. We will also try to mention important telephone numbers Hua Hin and Cha-am, mini Thai course, addresses of organizations with which we have a lot of contact (immigration, tax office, etc.)

We have new members again!!

Events: the following dates have been set for the month of June:

June 7 pasta workshop at Jeffrey's “Parrotdise”

June 10th golf tournament, organized by Say Cheese, we of course hope that our club will provide many participants. Would our golfing members please register!

15 June day trip to Prachuap Kirikhan in collaboration with Nellie. Register before the bus is full.

In July a photo tour with Patrick Jacobs and a cooking lesson with Ronnie are on the program. August, singing with Arnold, September trip to Kuri Buri (wild elephants), book reading by Gordon Clark, information evening with the Hua Hin government; October information evening with AA insurance, Arts Village portrait painting and clay making, wine tasting (Gerard); November flower arranging, ballroom dance lessons (useful in view of the Christmas party), shuffleboard evening with stew.

December: Party time. Preparations are in full swing for our Christmas party and we are also celebrating the centenary of Centara hotel (originally Railway hotel). We commemorate that with a big nod to the 1920s. The board is looking for a T-Ford (or other classic) and/or an engine from that time...
I'll see you all this Friday and then I'll leave for the Netherlands. Robert Rijlaarsdam will be my observer until my return in October.

Wish you all a nice summer with an occasional shower and not too hot.
